Overview

Position Summary:

The Control Panel Designer works under the direction of the Electrical Engineering Manager to develop automation system designs and create construction documents using AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical and Excel.  Collaborate with other team members to ensure accuracy of all designs and documentation. The ideal candidate will have a desire to increase their technical understanding and training to perform future engineering responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two to three years’ experience in computer-aided drawing (CAD) systems, preferably AutoCAD
  • Understanding of analog and digital circuitry
  • Experience reviewing component specifications for physical layout and mounting considerations
  • Ability to understand and interpret:
    • Process and instrumentation drawings (P&ID)
    • Schematics
    • Electrical component datasheets
    • Electrical schematics and drawings
    • Control panel layouts
  • Experience completing basic mathematical calculations is essential
  • Ability to create and maintain panel templates for design efficiency

Additional Qualifications (preferred, but not required):

  • Problem-solving skills
  • Experience in food, dairy or beverage industry

Responsibilities:

  • Use AutoCAD Electrical, AutoCAD and/or Excel to create design documents required for each new panel design, including:
    • I/O sheets
    • Electrical schematics
    • Pneumatic drawings
    • Electrical bills of material
    • Nameplates
    • Replacement fuse charts and manufacturer’s data decals
    • Junction box drawings
    • Electrical wiring pull sheets
  • Create, organize and maintain CAD symbol and template libraries
  • Design electrical panels according to industry standard techniques and procedures
  • Translate P&ID information into panel layouts, I/O sheets and schematic drawings
  • Create and release bills of material for all project panels
  • Plan and report work priorities to meet project deadlines per project manager’s specifications
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure accuracy of all designs and documentation
  • Perform other responsibilities, as required
