  • The General Foreman – Shovels and Drills coordinates/ leads the efforts of a maintenance team to deliver scheduled and unscheduled maintenance services to ensure the safe and reliable performance of all mobile equipment. Support and add value to the Mine Maintenance mission and vision statements.


  • Accept personal responsibility for the health and safety of every employee under or assigned to his/her supervision.
  • Supervise/ coordinate the following key planning activities:
    • Optimization of standard job plans (resources, parts, tooling, task lists) for routine maintenance activities, based site experience and OEM input, for all production fleets.
    • All routine maintenance activities (labor, APL‟s, SJP‟s, costs, etc.) are uploaded and maintained in SAP & Xeras/AMT.
    • Work orders and requisitions (materials and services) in SAP. Confirm that parts and external labor are available prior to releasing work orders.
    • Liaise with Supply to expedite external parts and contractor labor suppliers, where necessary.
    • Schedule all routine maintenance activities (work orders) in consultation with Production and Maintenance, including short-term changes to the maintenance schedules based upon Production, Maintenance and Supply requirements.
    • Provide quality work packs to the Maintenance Supervisors for all routine maintenance activities to ensure quality and efficient work execution. Seek detailed work completion information from the Maintenance Supervisors and resolve any issues as necessary.
  • Reviews all maintenance schedules and coordinates activities with other departments in order to ensure optimal equipment and operation availability to meet business needs.
  • Responsible for supervising all maintenance execution activities and ensuring that safe work practices are included in all maintenance schedules and plans; conducts periodic safety inspections.
  • Accountable for ownership of the MOS elements MN04, MN25, MN02, and GE01, which entails:
    • Responsibility for taking action on identified improvement opportunities to the MOS Element.
    • Resolving MOS Element non-conformances by direct intervention/coaching wherever possible or referring non-conformances to direct supervisor for resolution if initial efforts are not successful.
    • Ensuring that all MOS Element documentation is current and approved changes to the MOS Element is communicated to all involved stakeholders.
    • Inducting new team members in their respective MOS elements.
  • Assist with the training and development of the supervisors/technicians and ensure shift team employees are being developed in accordance with Newmont people development programs Conduct employee performance appraisal at least quarterly.
  • Administers discipline, and enforces company policies and procedures as required. Comply with all HSLP, Environment and Social Responsibility requirements under Newmont’s Integrated Management System, Newmont vision, Government of Ghana Agencies, lending institutions, shareholders’ interests and values.
  • Provide hands-on assistance during operations activities and ensuring that safe work practices are followed.  Conduct periodic safety meetings and inspections.
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in all work areas to provide a safe and healthy workplace for all employees and contractors.
  • Conduct and complete incident / accident investigations and take corrective action to prevent injury and / or re-occurrence.
  • Ensure that equipment isolations are performed in accordance to established procedures.
  • Ensure that security procedures are followed in order to minimize the opportunities for theft of equipment bearing material or company property.
  • Assists in the creation and implementation of policies and procedures that result in optimum effectiveness, productivity and operating cost.
  • Responsible for Safety, Environmental, and Social Responsibility policies. Creates a suitable work environment to motivate staff, employees and contractors to achieve optimum effectiveness, productivity and operating costs.
  • Supervise/coordinate the development and updating of all maintenance strategies for mine maintenance production assets and facilities.
  • Report on standard maintenance measures that are directly related to the production fleets – namely; availability, mean repair duration, mean time between maintenance, component usage and cost (actual versus budget) on a monthly basis.
  • Assists in capital evaluation of projects.
  • Assists in the production of Mine Maintenance monthly report
  • Reviews and updates departmental procedures and policies, administers discipline, enforces company policy, and ensures compliance with state, federal, or other jurisdictional laws.
  • Implement training procedures in line with NGGL people development program.
  • Responds to emergencies that could cause injury to personnel or loss of operational efficiency.
  • Participate in interviews of prospective employees and conduct orientation for newly hired execution staff.
  • Development of the process operations SOP‟s, management plans and operating procedures, guidelines.
  • Motivate shift teams in fostering a solid team atmosphere while maintaining a safe and disciplined work environment.
  • Become familiar with and strictly adhere to Newmont’s Health, Safety and Environmental standards. Act as a role model in complying with and supporting these standards and practices.

  • The position is located at the Ahafo mine site in Ghana – West Africa. The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representatives of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform essential functions of this job.

  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to sit at a desk for periods of time, climb stairs, walk and stand.
  • Work Environment: Occasional exposure to noise, fumes, high temperature hazardous materials, sharp edges, dust, pinch-points, vibration, slippery surfaces etc.
  • Working Hours: Although the standard day shift working hours will be applicable, occasionally extended working hours, night shift or early morning shifts will be required to meet operational demand.


  • Degree in Mechanical or Mining Engineering or CMRP certification;  equivalent experience will be considered
  • Technical qualification in Maintenance Planning/Asset Management

  • Demonstrated safety leadership for both self and for a team
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Heavy Equipment Maintenance in mining and 8 Years of supervisory experience in HE – mining or an equivalent combination of training and experience are necessary
  • Experience with facility designs and equipment, development and management of MARC agreements, and tire maintenance programs is required.
